AI-Assisted Development with Agentic IDEs · Lesson 1
What Agentic IDEs Are
Agentic IDEs and coding agents go beyond autocomplete. They read your codebase, plan changes across files, run terminal commands and tests, and iterate until the task is done.
Examples include Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot's agent mode, and terminal agents such as Claude Code. They differ in interface, but all combine an LLM with tools for files, search and the shell.
You shift from typing every line to directing, reviewing and verifying work.
Key points
- Agents edit multiple files and run commands
- IDE-based and terminal-based tools exist
- LLM + file, search and shell tools
- Your role becomes direction and review
